Under threat of rain, we headed down to the Warner Center to give back by giving gifts to kids that are less fortunate. Many cars came out and several celebrities, including Jay Leno and Carey Hart. Jay brought out his rare Chrysler Turbine. Several friends had new cars, including Adam with a Ferrari 360 and Bruce with a Ferrari California. Richard made an appearance with the F430 and ended up going home with several Lakers tickets. The day ended up turning out very nice as the rain held off. (continue reading…)

Today, Brian and I hosted our first car meet and drive. It had a modest turnout but plenty of characters within those that turned up. We met at Peet’s Coffee and Tea and after some friendly banter decided to make a Spunky Canyon run. Paul, in the lead, made all of the Ferraris play catch-up. After a “scheduling debacle” the group said good by to the dark Ferraris and had lunch at Sisley where a great time was had by all. Congratulations to Denise for taking her red car as fast as it has ever been with her behind the wheel. Also, a big thanks to the motorcyclists on Bouquet who politely let us know that CHPs were nearby. By far the biggest thanks is to Paul for picking up the lunch tab. Today, I ran a Mini Cooper S around an autocross course at the Home Depot Center thanks to ABF Road Tour and Yokohama Tires. Also, a big thanks to Gruppe S for organizing everything. I felt like the Mini is fun, but not my cup of tea. Lots of turbo lag and the stability control is always there trying to keep you from having fun. Still had a couple good laps, my best being the one below.

Our resident Ferrari racer managed to put down a top speed of 211 mph on a runway. Fastest of the day, according to him. He did so along side road racer Didier Theys, a former 24 Hours of Daytona winner and Porsche RS Spyder driver. Chris posted times in three different cars, his fastest being in none other that Woking’s Silver Arrow the Mercedes McLaren SLR. He also posted 205 mph in a Ford GT and 200 mph in a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. Chris earned a special award as the fastest driver of the day and went home once again with a plaque to hang in the trophy case.

This was a nice run down to Irvine for Cars and Coffee. Brian, Chris, Richard, and I had a fun run keeping it light. We had the pleasure of seeing a Bugatti Veyron show up there, as well as a spec racer with a K20 powerplant being demoed. (continue reading…)

We went down to Irvine for some weekly Cars and Coffee. My S2000 and all the others that showed up caused some drama, but I think that’s all worked out now. Chris’ Ferrari puked its alternator and we got stuck waiting for a tow in Downey (?). An angry gas station attendant wanted nothing to do with our plight and thought that a 360 in front of his gas station was bad for business and made us push it 30 feet away. This was a fundraiser event for Toys for Tots, to try to put gifts under the Christmas tree for the less fortunate.  Also the organizers were trying to win a world record by having the most Ferrari’s in one location. (continue reading…)
