8 Exotic Car Crashes and the Stories that Surround Them

by Will on Dec.02, 2009, under Industry News

Every once in a while, there are incidents involving the rare and exotic cars of the world. Sometimes these are unfortunate accidents; others involve circumstances that should have been otherwise avoided. That is to say, avoided if the drivers had some sense of self preservation that most of us have. However, being the armchair quarterback that I am, I now give you my judgment on these occurrences. Enjoy.

First up, we have a relatively tame clip of the venerable American classic, the Dodge Viper. No real story here, just the sickening crunch of metal on metal as a van becomes what I can only presume would be a V14.

Next up, the featured car is a 2009 Ferrari California. This car was shipped to Bulgaria for some shenanigans rich millionaire to toss into corners. Turns out, he let the back end out a little too far. As a precautionary note, turn your sound down for this clip as it was filmed by howling cats.

This next video has had GT-R fanboys up in arms for months now. In a typical rally style drive, like those that occur all over the world on canyon roads, a young kid felt the need to show the world the true performance potential that is possessed by the Nissan supercar. He was driving Glendora Mountain Road here in Socal and apparently didn’t realize how many drivers are very fast on those roads. He tried to keep up with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 and felt the sting of the canyon wall. Many suspect the driver has moved on to a BMW M3 of the E90 persuasion.

We have another classic American car leaving the road again up next. This Shelby Cobra biting the curb may explain why Irvine’s Cars and Coffee had such strict no burnout rules. It also may explain why young people should never host documentaries. Note the crowds reaction.

Proudly demonstrated in a Lotus Elise, is a bit of lift-throttle oversteer and an elevation change. This is just a group drive gone wrong.

In recent news, the world was lit on fire with the passing of a Bugatti Veyron in Texas. The driver initially said that a bird flew in front of him causing him to swerve into a marsh, but as soon as this video turned up he changed his tune. Turns out he was on the cell phone.

Everyone’s favorite road rally, the Gumball 3000, takes another victim. A Rolls Royce Phantom drifts into a guardrail and pukes body panels. The audio is a bit naughty so this is NSFW.

The last video I’ll leave you with is that of Eddie Griffin totalling an Enzo at Irwindale Speedway during a charity event that centered around promoting the movie “Redline”.
